2006 Van Dessel Country Road Bob
Single Speed Road bike |
Description: Bike will be arriving this week. It's chrome and green with yellow bar tape. Gearing is 38-15. It has a flip-flop rear wheel to accomodate both a freewheel and fixed gear. This will become my training/winter commuting bike. I look forward to having a bomb-proof and simple to use bike (no derailleurs to get dirty or requiring adjustment). I plan to leave the car keys safely at home and use the car for major shopping and the occasional active snow storms at usual commuting times. This bike has a smooth feel to the ride. Been riding in freewheel mode because the fenders do not provide enough clearance with my foot when cornering. When I take the fenders off I will flip the wheel to ride in fixie mode.

2005 Trek Pilot 5.2
Road bike |
Description: 120 OCLV carbon, seatstays, and chainstays. Fork is carbon/aramid with aluminum steerer. Wheels: Bontrager Race Lite running Vredestein Fortezza Tri-Comp 700-23C. Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra 10 speed, triple chainring. Gearing: Chainring 52/39/30. Cassette 12-25. Modifications from original equipment: Fizik Arione saddle, and FSA K-wing bar. I have become one with this bike. The fit and ride feel are excellent. For a lighter guy, I have reached a maximum speed of 55 MPH and the bike handles the road with confidence and loves to fly. I shall name her Silver Streak, because she likes to take longer pulls at the front of trains.

2001 Trek 4900
Hardtail XC Mountain bike |
Description: I changed out the knobby for slick tires, added lights, and even a cup holder for my Java! Java holder and lights will move to CRB, when it comes in. The knobby tires go back on in the spring after mud season. (Nope, not into the muck like the 24 hours of Moab had this year.)

1993 Trek 1400
Road bike |
Description: I got this bike after my divorce. Decided I wanted to bring back into my life the things I enjoyed before marriage, that I didn't seem to have time for while married. (Hint/reminder to me: Next long-term relationship, she will enjoy biking.) It is all aluminum; a new experience for me. I could still feel the road but has the additional annoying chatter over the steel bikes I rode previously. That was a negative in my mind. I never developed a melding relationship with this bike, so I opted for mountain bikes. Still I missed the long miles and distance I could gain with a road bike, so my LBS helped me improve the fit and added buzz killers in handlebar ends. That greatly improved the front end ride. Equiped with Shimano RX100 components. Gearing: 53/39 chainrings, 12-27 9-speed cassette. I got a great year-end closeout deal.

1970 Schwinn Continental
Road bike |
Description: Besides my nice little 20 inch single speed and my older brother's 26 inch balloon tire vintage 1950s cruiser (imagine the nostalgia value if I had that bike today), my first REAL 10-speed road bike was a metallic brown Schwinn Continental. Back in the days that bikes were NOT cool, I rode it everywhere. I had this bike until 1988, when I sold it to a friend. Photo (found on web) is of a comparable bike.
