I can't remember when I first rode a bicycle, but I do remember where and how. I was going down a hill and it was ride or CRASH, I chose ride and have been hooked ever since. I stared serious ridding in the late 70's. After several chain store bikes "HUFFY" and the like, I purchased a Schwinn Traveler, and put several miles on it. My next one added to the fleet was a Schwinn Clear Creek Mountain bike for a little off road ridding, that too was fun. although the bike was lets just say "UP GRADE" time. TREK 4300 was the was my choice, it works well for Me. About this time, while working at King's Daughters Hospital EMS Dept. I heard about, The International Police Mountain Bike Association, cops on bikes. well they also have a EMS division. After presenting the idea to the Administration. The KDH EMS Bike Team was formed and all riders are required to take and pass the IPMBA EMS Cyclist Course. I became a Instructor for IPMBA EMS Cyclist. After I retired from KDH in 2003, I continued to ride, but missed the rode bike, so I traded the old faithful Schwinn Traveler in for a TREK 1000, It was another good choice for Me. how ever, after only about 50 miles on it, I had to have another open heart surgery, 2nd one in 10yrs. This stopped all my activity for several years, Well after all this time the urge to ride and felling better, and with the twisting of my arm by Mickey Waller. I am happy to say its great to be back in the saddle again, a lot slower and not the distances I used to be able to ride, but the important thing is I'm riding again. Thanks Mickey. |
