I started riding seriously in 1998 at 38 years of age and it quickly became my primary form of exercise. From the start, I've averaged about 2500 miles a year. Living in the Chicago area meant my riding season was only six or seven months long (May to October) as I'm not a fan of cold weather riding. Huge props to the hardcore who ride through a midwest winter.

From '98 to '05 all of my miles were on my mountain bike. It was the only bike I had ... awesome work out but really tough miles!! I bought a Cannondale Caad 8 in the spring of '05 and rode that until the spring of '09 when I bought the Scott. My total annual mileage is accumulated between all three bikes with the vast majority coming on the roadies.

In the Spring of 2011 I moved to Atlanta. My goal in 2012 is at least 100 miles per week. We'll see. I travel 4 days a week so this goal is the most aggressive I can set and even hope to achieve. Most of my rides are 30 to 40 miles and I average around 18 mph.

Road bike
Description:  Gruppo; Sram Red / Crank; Dura Ace / Wheels; Mavic Ksyrium SL / Frame; 56cm Carbon Fiber

I love this bike. It's a pure bred, no non sense, carbon fiber race bike. The Addict was Scott's "flag ship" race frame and was raced by HTC / Columbia for several years. It was quite literally, the lightest frame on the planet at the time. When viewed up close, you notice that Scott was so intent on low weight, that they didn't apply a paint job or the typical cosmetic layer of carbon. Just a few logo's and a clear coat. Light, stiff, fast and extremely responsive to even the slightest rider input.

Road bike
Description:  Gruppo; Shimano Ultegra / Crank; Truvativ Carbon Fiber / Wheels; Mavic Ksyrium Elite / Frame; 58cm Aluminum

The Caad 8 was popular among Crit racers as it was an effective "entry level" race frame designed and built for hard, fast miles. In other words, it's no cruiser, but it is surprisingly comfortable considering the aggressive geometry and stiff ride. So cozy, that I can do long stretches in the drop downs. Riding aluminum and Ultegra is a fun change of pace. This bike also serves as my foul weather ride.

Hardtail XC Mountain bike
Description:  This is my "work truck" and I still put a few hundred miles a year on it. In 2010, I burned out on road riding as I couldn't find a loop where I wasn't risking life and limb with clueless and ignorant drivers. So I found a 35 mile loop on trails of lime stone and dirt, cranked up the IPOD and bliss'd out riding off road 5 days a week, all summer long. This big, old, heavy, Hunka - Hunka - Burnin Trek just goes and goes.
