History:

I've been riding bikes pretty much all my life...

I learned at age 5, and as a young lad got into BMX Once I felt what it was like to jump ramps and fly through the air, I was hooked!

This led to FREESTYLE biking in my teens and 20's. I was in love with freestyle- I found it so personal, so expressive, so challenging- it is a sport where you don't need a ball, court, field, or a team- it's just you, the bike, and the laws of physics!

I'm more into MOUNTAIN BIKING these days- I've found that as I age, my body doesn't heal as quickly as it used to, so I've turned to less impacting forms of cycling. Mountain biking is similar to freestyle, in my opinion- you still have the physical challenge as you cross creek beds, jump logs, and speed down hills, but with mountain biking you also get to enjoy the scenery!

TOURING & ROAD RIDING is the most recent aspect of cycling that I've incorporated into my repertoire. The idea of seeing the world from the seat of a bicycle really appeals to me. It's much better then driving in a car! The world passes by slowly, and you get to see, hear and smell everything! It's a wonderful experience.

My best tour (so far!) was from South Chicago to Los Angeles in 2002. It was 2,680 miles of adventure, and 54 days of cycling bliss! (profile pic is the end of that trip)

CYCLE COMMUTING is probably where I get the bulk of my yearly mileage. I commute as often as I can... if it's not raining! I hate rain. My commute is only 8 miles round trip, so sometimes I'll beef up the ride by taking the long way!

	2003 Haro Mirra Flair BMX bike
	Description: I bought this bike from my good friend Eric on 4/26/08, for the wonderful "Very Special Friend" sale price of $100. A steal for me, plus I was able to keep the bike "in the family"- that is, in the extended group of bicycle friends that I have been in since my teens. It is a beautiful bike- a lovely dark blue with very nice components- all stock. It's a little longer and heavier than my previous 20" Standard STA, but I'm sure I'll get used to it... This is the bike I use when I'm feeling the itch to go do some skatepark riding, flatland, or street. Mmm, mmm, good freestyle fun! Lifetime Odometer: 130.9 miles

	Description: RETIRED/DISASSEMBLED. This was the bike I used to go tooling around and jumping. I rode it from Kankakee, IL to L.A. in 2002. What a great bike with lots of memories. Lifetime Odometer: 7,718.8 miles

	Specialized Hard Rock XC Single Speed Mtn bike
	Description: RETIRED/DISASSEMBLED. This was my "pickup truck", used for going to the store, commuting to work, hauling my kayak around, or just anything on the 'utility' side of things. Single speed. Now this bike has been donated to my neice, who needed a bike. I'm happy to "pay it forward"! She ain't all that pretty, but she takes me where I need to go! Lifetime Odometer: 2,396.7 miles
