2010: 6264 miles, ranked 484 in Bike Journal

Maxxed out mileage in 2006, with 12,118 miles which I will not be able to do again so long as I am working full time and have kids at home. It was starting to get a little crazy.

When I was 8 or 9, I had an obsession with numbers. The axle-mounted odometer on my single-speed Schwinn Speedster mesmerized me. I did 66 miles one summer day looping endlessly around my neighborhood. That was the beginning of my endurance cycling, but I had no idea what that meant.

Have run and completed 29 marathons. My best was 2:32, which I did 3 times.
Philosophy of cycling: one-less-car out to kill me or someone else. I like to ride unsupported, even in events that require it.
I like climbing and love the mountains most, but enjoy a good, fast spin ride too.

I came to the Annapolis area of Maryland in 1987 and quickly became very nervous about road conditions, traffic and angry drivers. Within a year, I dedicated myself instead to running, putting the bike away for 12 years till a calf injury during a track mile race in 2001 convinced me to give the bicycle another try.
p.s. I also ride a unicycle and plan to post a picture of me doing that in place of my serious-looking competition photo

This was my main ride for more than 10 years, then I devoted it to my roller rail upon buying the LeMond in 2002. Alas, she must be consigned to the basement museum since the wheel stays broke in August 2004 and there's no known way to mend that injury.

Lifetime Odometer: 13,048.0 miles

1981 Motobecane
Road bike
Description:  Gold - purchased in Lakewood, Colorado, while I was taking time off from college to review my options. One of those outcome options was to ride this bike 2,100 miles from Denver to Nashville during June 1981. The first 500 miles of this trip included 6 crossings of the continental divide. That's when I got hooked on the pain induced from hours of climbing.
This bike was stolen in 1983 from my dorm at the University of Arizona (Tucson).

Photo: late June, 1981, Huntsville, Al at the moment I completed 2100 miles from Denver (the long way) in 16 days.

Lifetime Odometer: 5,000.0 miles
