1994 Miyata Nine 16
Road bike |
Description: The purple one, from what was apparently the last year that Miyata imported into the US. Somewhere along the line somebody replaced the nice 105 double setup with a Sora Triple, Sora Flightdeck brifters, cheap wheels, and awful brakes. Upgrade with Mavic Open Pro on Ultegra and Microshift 8-speed double shifters & derailleurs.

1983 Miyata 210
Touring Road bike |
Description: A $100 Craigslist find. Good looking relatively lightweight frame, triple-butted CroMo and nice pantographs. Viability of most components questionable -- will replace as needed and see what I end up with, because who knows when I'll need a lightweight touring bike.

1996 Miyata RidgeRunner Team
Trail/All Mountain bike |
Description: A $50 Craigslist find! Not certain on year. Beautiful triple-butted cro-mo frame -- some chipping but no real damage, Deore DX components that look to be in good shape under the grime. Maybe I'll find a use for it, or maybe I'll sell it once it's looking and riding like it should.
Lifetime Odometer:

1992 Nishiki Katmandu (retired)
700c Hybrid bike |
Description: The year is a guess. So is much else about this one--I haven't been able to find any information online about the "Katmandu". But it's very like what they call a "commuter bike" these days: road geometry, fatter tires than a road bike (700x28), cantilever brakes, flat bars, and a triple up front with smaller than road gearing (50-40-30). Pretty much all the components are Shimano Exage, and they mostly appear to be in mint condition. I'm hoping to make it my primary commuting vehicle sometime soon.
November '08--Replaced flat bar and mountain shifters/levers with Midge bars, Tektro aero levers, and Dia-Compe bar end shifters, much improving the riding experience
2015 update -- still have this one but it's in pieces and subject to scavenging.
Lifetime Odometer:

1989 Centurion Ironman Master (retired)
Road bike |
Description: Dave Scott model. 58cm, Tange #1 Cro-moly, Shimano 600 components (brakes, derailleurs, cranks), Dura-Ace bar end shifters, Mavic rims on Shimano 600 hubs, Scott profile bars. May 2007 -- replaced crank & FD with FSA Energy Compact 50/34 with an Isis BB, and a new Shimano 105 FD which seemed happier with the compact crank than the old 600 derailleur.
After making this my primary ride for several months, I eventually realized it was too small for me. Sold it in November 2007 to begin financing the acquisition and build up of a new Bianchi Vigorelli frame.
Lifetime Odometer:

Tires:

Shogun Samurai (retired)
Road bike |
Description: My beater and hill trainer. An ugly shade of teal, but a surprisingly light and well-made frame, with good components (Shimano 105 wheels, Ultegra triple and FD, Tiagra RD, 105 downtube shifters, 105 brakes). Plus it's a great climber, and how you can beat those Hellenic stays?

2005 Dahon Cadenza (retired)
Folding bike |
Description: I bought the Cadenza because I needed a bike that would fit into the trunk of my Passat, but it turned out to be a surprisingly quick ride. Not real confortable after 25 miles or so, but I could keep up with my road bike buddies up to that point. I finally sold this one after neglecting it for a year--it was a cool bike, but my road bikes just stole my heart away.
Lifetime Odometer:
