History:

I took up cycling in my late twenties as a way to stay in shape once I realized my waist line was growing as my time spent on basketball and volleyball courts was shrinking. I immediately fell in love with the fun and utility of pedaling these efficient, two-wheeled works of art instead of enduring the mind-numbing drudgery of operating a motor vehicle any more than necessary.
I am now an avid recreational rider and swing-shift bicycle commuter who pedals 4,000-5,000 miles per year, at all times of the day or night, and in most weather conditions. I have worked as a local bike shop mechanic, and I am a certified road cycling instructor who is regularly involved in community programs such as Safety Town, Cub Scouts, and Safe Routes to School. I am also a member of the League of American Bicyclists, Randonneurs USA, the Ultra-Marathon Cycling Association, the International Mountain Biking Association, the Cleveland Area Mountian Bike Association, and the Stark County Bike Club. |

2015 Trek Crossrip
Cyclocross Road bike |
Description: Built up on 3/11/15, this is my new all-weather, multi-purpose bike... The utilitarian black frame, stable geometry, internal cable routing, disc brakes, full-coverage fenders, leather saddle, touring rack and tires, blindingly-bright lights, and GPS navigation make this an ideal commuting, endurance, and light-touring machine for both road and trail.

2012 Gary Fisher Superfly Al Elite
Hardtail XC 29er Mtn bike |
Description: Big but efficient... 29-inch Rhythm Pro wheels with S-Works tubeless tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and a Fox fork on a 23-inch, BB86.5, hardtail frame. It's a little tricky to navigate this long-based beast through tight, technical sections; but give it even a short, open stretch of singletrack, and it flies. It climbs surprisingly well for its size, and it laughs in the face of roots and branches. This bike is the most fun vehicle I have pedaled since my CHiPs "Big Wheel."

2012 Kona Sutra
Touring Road bike |
Description: Bumps? What bumps? A 61cm steel frame, 36-spoke wheels, disc brakes, 700x32 touring tires, and sturdy front and rear racks... Weight-weenies may turn their noses up at it, but this long-distance touring rig is buttery-smooth and super stable, even when bombing downhill with a week's worth of camping gear.
Lifetime Odometer:
874.1 miles

2010 Trek Belleville
Cruiser bike |
Description: An early 20th Century French porteur-inspired "grocery getter," used mostly for trips around town. With multiple racks, a seven-speed freewheel in the back, and a Dynamo generator hub in the front--all bolted to a 64cm steel frame--this 50lbs tank isn't going to win any races... but then again, that's not the point.
Lifetime Odometer:
331.9 miles

2010 Specialized Langster Steel
Fixed Gear Road bike |
Description: All the cool kids ride a steel fixie, right? I have to admit that this bike only makes it off the wall and onto the road a handful of times each year. It's fast and it's fun, but since its owner is more of a long-distance and utilitarian cyclist, it doesn't really get ridden as much as it should.
Lifetime Odometer:
150.3 miles

2011 Specialized CruX
Cyclocross Road bike |
Description: After years of upgrading my other bikes, I finally had enough spare parts leftover to cobble together this Frankenstein as a toddler-toter/gravel bike. In addition to serving as a means to explore non-technical trails and cruise the towpath with my family, it also has the rather monotonous task of sitting in an indoor trainer during the winter months for when the roads are too icy to go out.
Lifetime Odometer:
142.4 miles

2015 Gravity Bullseye Monster
XC Mountain bike |
Description: One of the coolest Christmas presents ever (courtesy of my wonderful wife and kids), this fat bike gives me the ability to continue riding off-road throughout the winter months... without having to fishtail all over the place.
Lifetime Odometer:
23.7 miles

2012 Gary Fisher Ion Pro
Cyclocross Road bike |
Description: Now stripped down to just the frameset, this was my trusty, do-it-all, "Swiss army bike" from 2012-2014... a multi-purpose, mountain-climbing, mile-muncher used for 4am commutes, recreational riding, charity events, and randonneuring. It was a Fisher Ion Pro frameset built up with Mavic Open Pro 36/105 wheels, a SRAM Force/X7 drivetrain, Avid Shorty 6 brakes, full-coverage fenders, GPS navigation, a traffic camera, and enough lighting and reflective tape to be seen from outer space.
