Turned 50 in March 2004. Up until an organized ride 3 years ago when I did 25 miles for the first time, I had probably never ridden more than 15 miles in one ride. In June of 2004 I started riding to lose some weight and get in shape. I got more serious and then bought a new 2004 Fuji Newest in September 2004. First time in clipless. Best guestimation 1600 miles up to today (12/20/04). Did a metric in the hilly Shenandoah Valley and 90 miles on the flat but windy Eastern Shore--both in October. No official century yet. Update (5/16/05)--first century completed. Update (5/29/05)--first sprint triathlon completed. Update (4/19/06) After completing 4200 miles in 2005, I have taken a long lay-off for various reasons. Completed my first ride of the year last weekend. Spent a lot of time cross-training on the stepper machine this winter. No real cycling goals for 2006. I'll just take it as it comes. But what a journey 2005 was! My 2005 journal would likely be pretty good reading for someone who has become passionate about getting faster and going longer. |

1986 Shogun

| Description: Bought this bike new. I'm guessing that Greg Lemond had something to do with it. I was riding a 14 mile extreme roller loop at the time. In the early 90's I moved and rode this on a 12 mile out and back in slightly less hilly terrain. I started back on this bike in the summer of 2004, putting in much longer rides before deciding that 30lbs was a bit much. Bought the Fuji. This one is good for just jumping on with my tennis shoes and riding to the swimming pool, etc. Complete with kickstand.
