I put this thread under Community Stories because I want the BJ community to post all their ride/races/fun rides with pics so the rest of the BJ community get jealous or actually sees what they are missing or how much fun we have at it. Don't expect me to be able to post any pics unless something really happens big time. I have signed up for 3 gravel races alreay

Dirty Pecan Monticello FL March 3rd This is a free ride.

Bootlegger 100 April 21st Lenoir NC this is to be a bugger of a ride

Funks Bottom Big Prairie Ohio June 16th This is a free ride.

What has me attracted to these rides other than the outdoors the multiple types of terrain on the ride like some single track, B roads, 2 lane dirt roads, some climbs. So far there hasn't been a lot of techy single track but enough to keep you hones. What looks like a grassroot community with people just going out riding with each other and enjoy riding. Yes there are and will always be some racers. I only saw 3-4 cars/vehicles on my Pony Express 75 miler and they were farmers.

Post as many pics or ride report/race reports or whatever you want to even to include what you have set up as your gravel bike and maybe what tires you run. This is all about showing some people here what gravel riding is all about.

I will try not to be too jealous or riders who live in perfect riding right now who post pics or even if you have the guts to ride in the snow or bad weather.

I bought the 2017 Raleigh Roker Comp in 56 cm had it shipped to me direct from Raleigh. I got a sweetheart of a deal on it because of having the Raleigh Corporate Account. Think $1653 instead of the $2799 MSRP. It came with the rear derailleur bent into the wheel. Took the bike to my local Raleigh dealer for final assembly since I didn't know how to install the front caliper and the warranty issue. It is a real sweetheart compared to my 5 lb. heavier Tamland 1. I climbed my local mt. 3 miles at a constant 7-8% grade and it climbs like a dream. Coming off the mt. which has really rutted, rough, washboard roads I was pleasantly surprised on how much more the carbon bike soaked up the bumps that the steel Tamland which is really to do that also. The other big difference was the Roker Comp has hydraulic disc brakes while the Tamland has the Spyre mechanical brakes. I found this to make a big difference as when I hit the hydro brakes the bike stopped right away. When I hit the mechanical brakes it had a delay which scared the jeebers out of me. If I had to do it over again I might have bought the Roker Sport as it only weighed 2 lbs. heavier and has 2x Shimano 105 instead of the 1x Sram Rival that the Comp has. I probably missed 20-30 shifts on the short side. It is going to take me awhile to get use to it for sure. Right now the roads are slushy and lots of salt on the road I have no trouble taking the Tamland out in it as I consider it my beater bike now. Probably riding tomorrow.

Let the fun begin. Looking forward to lots of post especially posts of your route/bike/ride/race etc. that you have done. I see lots of folks use the trick of posting their bike pic with the pedal on their helmet.

BTW I and others would also luv to see some fat bikes pics/reports so you can post here also as I see plenty of fat bikes on my gravel rides/races.

Thanks
Zman

Well, I sort of did a gravel ride today, but it was on pavement. They dumped so much chat, which is small sharp gravel dumped on the roads when it snows, it seemed like we were riding on gravel roads.

I guess that is better on your bike than salt right?

They put both down. The chat is used mostly on the steeper hills.

Never heard it called that. Around here they call it anti skid.

We have another name for it, but I can't say it on here.
