Remember when the first iPods started dieing because their internal batteries would no longer charge? Remember the big stink people made when they were told by Apple that the battery was non replaceable? Later they said they could fix them, but it was way too expensive. Well guess what.
Apple was wrong.
You CAN get a new rechargeable battery for your old iPod. And not only is it cheap, ($20-$29) it lasts longer than the original battery, (Has a 10 year guarantee) it holds a charge longer (plays longer) than the original, and you can replace it yourself!

My old 3rd Generation (40GB) iPod (Released April 28, 2003) finally quit holding a charge this year, not a big deal to me since I rarely listen to my iPod on battery power. I usually only listen to my iPod when it is plugged in, to my stereo at work, in the car, or my Bose SoundDock.
But I figured for $25, what the heck, let's give it a try.
I took my time, and changed the battery in about 15 minutes. And I'm a complete klutz!!! The most difficult part was opening the case. (using their supplied special tool)
Reconnecting the hard drive, and disconnecting the original battery took a little time, The plug was a little sticky, and they warn you about breaking the circuit board if you pull too hard on it.
And if you don't feel like changing the battery yourself, they will do it for you for $19.
I highly recommend this service if you have and old outdated iPod that you'd still like to use.
