 Blood Pressure Blues.

Hypertension Hell...

I've been struggling with stage 3 (severe) Hypertension (+200/100) since I discovered the problem in 2006. The problem is, the drugs lower my blood pressure, but make me feel like crap. (Dizziness, fatigue, a feeling of weakness, light headed feeling when I move too quick, have to pee a lot...)
The other problem with BP drugs is, they can have adverse effects on the active lifestyle of an athlete.
The list of possible side effects is frightening.

In my research, I have found 3 great papers on Hypertension and Athletes.
If you are a physically active person with High Blood Pressure, please read these arcticles. They may help.

I want to lower it without the need for drugs. So, I will lose 30 pounds, (Continue to) adjust my eating lifestyle (diet), and exercise at least 5 times a week.

Live Long & Prosper.

Good links Craig.....thanks. The genetic component can be huge for some and by my experience the excersize, weight, and salt have been important. Sometimes medication is stiil needed. When I retired, my BP dropped almost immedeately by 12 or so points withot any other changes.

Hmmmm, I'd love to retire! (My girlfriend just retired at 50.)
Maybe I could convince the boss (Dad) that retiring would be good for my health.

Thanks for the links "Kraig".

I too have had a high BP condition and have been treated for 10 years with a daily dose of an ace inhibitor and a diuretic. From my personal experience with the condition I think the meds are helpful, but for sure, weight loss and exercise need to be a first line of treatment.
