At the Cronometro Bike Swap, we met a friend of ours who told us he was organizing a 100 mile singletrack endurance race that would connect all of the best CAMBA singletrack trails. (Using fireroads when needed.)
Here's the website... www.chequamegon100.com/
My first thought was, that sounds kool, but there's no way in the world I could do something like that. After all, my longest singletrack ride in the last 4 years is 27 miles, and I was toast after that.
But the next day, I started thinking... This would really give me something to motivate my off season training. And... to ride all of my favorite CAMBA trails in one day, how kool would that be? Besides... I did a century on my road bike... If I break it down to four 25 mile rides, and bring a lot of food to eat along the way, I just might be able to do it.
I started to figure out how long it would take me... I usually average 6.5 mph on CAMBA singletrack, at that pace it would take me 15.38 hours. I have lights, and I'd need them.
But, it wasn't meant to be. We already have other plans on the day the race is scheduled.
Here's the ride... www.bikejournal.com/ride.asp?RideID={D3D70516-3E83-45BE-8591-6C1C639EADBE}&startmonth=2&startday=9&startyear=2010&endmonth=12&endday=31&endyear=2010 Maybe I'll sign up for the 12 Hours of John Muir race in June. I need something to motive my workouts this Winter. www.wemseries.com/index.html
