OK... I finally figured out how to link to the video I did of the song in progress.
First, let me say, I'm sorry about the poor audio quality. The sound (distortion) is awful because of the video camera I used (veho muvi). The quality of the actual recording is very crisp and clean. It starts out OK, but as more instrumentation is added, the audio gets distorted, and the sound quality goes to hell. I had to use this camera because my Nikon point and shoot camera doesn't have a card big enough to last the 6 plus minutes of the entire song. I suppose I could have just mixed it down to an mp3 audio file, but the video is kinda kool to look at.
The lyrics are on my previous Blog, just in case you want to sing along.
As I said before, there are a few things that will be changed. This video is to give you an idea of what the song sounds like, and show a little bit of my process of creating a song.
The vocals are "ghost vocals", meaning this is the track I used as I was finding the melody. I started with the Casio "click track", then I recorded the acoustic guitar. (My Fender Big Tex.) Then, with the lyrics in front of me I would sing along and record the improvisations until I hit a melody that I liked. If I recall correctly, it took me about 3 hours to sing the entire song, line by line, verse by verse. After a satisfactory melody is recorded, I move on, and start adding more instruments to the mix. I always repair, and re-record the vocals after all the other instruments are complete.
The flat notes on the vocals will all be re-recorded, I do not have Auto-Tune. I do things the old fashioned way, and use my digital recorder the same way I would use my old analog tape recorders. Old dog, New trick syndrome.
Here's the link to the video... gallery.me.com/xrsmith#100096
