Ride Description: From Roland Olson Forest Preserve... Perfect ice biking conditions. The LPT had about an inch of light powder on smooth ice, and the SBT had most of its snow trampled by walkers. North of Elevator Road, the trail was mostly frozen limestone with patches of ice. |

Last week we had a warm thaw, followed by rain, and then single digit temperatures. You know what that means... Perfect ice biking conditions.
The LPT had about an inch of light powder on smooth ice, and the SBT had most of its snow trampled by dog walkers. Watch out for those frozen poopcicles!
North of Elevator Road, the trail was mostly frozen limestone with patches of ice.
Stay in the middle of the trail, and you'll have a smooth, fast ride. There are a few ruts, and bumpy sections on the edges. I would not recommend riding here unless you have studded tires, full body armor, or good health care.
I was able to get in a short ride before going to Milwaukee.
Photo #1... The Long Prairie Trail, with a layer of light powdery snow.
Photo #2... The Stone Bridge Trail, this is what lies under the powder. Sweet, beautiful ice.
