Today Jeff and I were both running late to start a 9 o’clock ride. I was there at 9:02 but rode south to meet Jeff about 1/2 mile south of the cafe. We rode together, but I could see that Jeff was struggling with the heat here on the 95th of July. We circled the lake at Furman and climbed the big hill behind the lake and Jeff was bombing on the hill. We waited there until he recover ed headed north. We pulled off several times for drinks and at the path to the TR Farmers’ Market Jeff wanted to turn back. We headed south but looped the lake going counter-clockwise this time. The hill was no easier, but he didn’t try to race me up the hill and did better this time. Once we were back at the cafe Jeff thought that he wanted to eat downtown, so we went to Maple Street Biscuits where he works. I bought a half dozen cinnamon biscuits and ate two of them along with a lot of iced tea. We rode back to Jeff’s building then I headed back up the trail. Once I was close to the truck, I cut across Sans Souci to Velo Valets and went in to get a drink and visit with Carlo. Carlo works on both Jeff and Bill’s trikes, so we talked about them. From there I cut back to the trail and to the cafe and the truck to finish the ride. By then it was 94 degrees on its way to 96 degrees.
