Today 8 of us met at the entrance to the zoo to ride - Ken, Steve S, Mark, Don Y and Lynda, Ron (a new guy), Kimberly, and me. We took off and since there were no weak riders I went to the front to set the pace. I rode off the front and let the group chase me. They caught me at a lighted crossing at the Pocket Park, but I rode off the front again. I took a detour on the lake at Furman and they passed me, but I passed them when they toured the Bell Tower. They passed me back when I rode up the big hill behind the lake while they crossed at the bridge. Then I chased them the rest of the way to Travelers Rest. At the Treehouse, I had a cup of decaf, and a small glass of fresh fruit. I also bought a brownie for Cissi while there. Mark, Ron, and I left early and I drafted off of them coming down the trail. The wind out there was brutal all day. We stayed together until Ron dropped us at the Pocket Park. Mark and I chatted on down the trail until he dropped me about 1/2 south of the Cafe. I rode back into town but stopped above the falls as two guys had a bike that was broken down. They chain was stuck inside the chain rings and one link was broken. I told them that I didn’t have a chain brake with me, but they were about 100 feet from Freehub Cycles. If Freehub was open at that time on Sunday, they could use a chain brake to remove the broken link and replace it with a master link. I rode from there into the parks and looped the old dog park area to get my 25 miles in.
