Weather Conditions: Chilly at high 50's to start, 61° once I reached my apartment. Wore a balaclava over my ears, knickers, and my heavy yellow jacket. Very comfortable. Weather was a melange...lots of rain-looking clouds to start, some good bright sun for part, back to clouds to end. Wind? Yes. Heavy heavy head winds for a good portion of the ride. Still trying to convince Karen to down shift when the wind is that strong so she doesn't over work her knees. |
Ride Description: Saturday morning ride with Karen P. to a bit beyond Dadaocheng Wharf and back. Went past because we wanted to see if we could spot the Taipei City officials who were supposedly coming on their bikes for a bike promotion Saturday. (ah ha...that explains the policemen stationed at intervals along the bike path from which he had just come) Our brains kicked into gear and we turned around because the bike traffic was getting too heavy and harrowing for us.
The policemen are always very nice, will smile and wave and greet us if we greet them first. One guy was funny because his greeting to us was, "Hola, como esta?" I was happy to see him on the return trip so I could greet him again in Spanish.
Part of the ride felt like we had run the gauntlet because of various traffic issues, both on and off the bike path. But, we were outside on the bikes in crisp air, so we can't really complain, right? |

One little highlight today was chatting along the way with a biker/United Airlines mechanic named Kelly. He had tucked in behind me for awhile, then decided to chat because he was curious about my "Take-a-Look" mirror. Rode with him until we caught up to his son. Always nice meeting new "friends."
