I had second thoughts about riding to work to day. This morning was 35°F with steady rain the whole way to work. This afternoon's commute is predicted to be a rain-snow mix with temps in the low 30's. Oh well, I'm at work now, so there is no backing out now.
Actually, the ride to work was not totally umpleasant. (Sorry for the double negative, I just couldn't bring myself to say "pleasant".) The mild temps are nice for a change. My rain jacket and winter-cycling boots keeps me fairly dry. A clear-plastic trash bag over my trunk bag works great in the rain.
All in all, I'm glad that I stuck to it. No balls, no blue chips. For me, the "blue chips" are beating my 126 commuting-days record from last year. I can beat last year's mark if, and only if, I ride to work every day for the rest of the year. That will be #127 on New Year's Eve day. Onward. .................................................
The afternoon commute was uneventful. However, tricky winter conditions prevaled---freezing slush from the earlier rain/snow mix, a layer of ice under snow on most roads. Very slow going for me and the cars. It will be bad tomorrow morning bacause all of this slush is going to freeze solid tonight. The plows will not be able to remove the ice ruts.
