Turning a 1/2 commute day into a full commute
Upon arriving at work this morning and getting changed into my work clothes, I was pondering the possibility of attending a grave side service scheduled for 4:30 this afternoon, at Fee Fee Cemetary - not far from where I go to church. One option would be to leave work early, around 3:30, and ride straight to the cemetary. The announcement last night at the memorial service stated that casual attire would be acceptable for the grave side service. My other option would be take a half days vacation, ride to church, where my wife works, change clothes there and go to the cemetary from there. Two other pluses for this option are a) the weather is nice today, so I can get some extra riding as well, and b) I was originally anticipating Jacque to come and pick me up after work so we could go out to John & Lee's house for our small group Bible study; taking the half day & riding to church (or the cemetary) would allow me to count today as a full commute, not just a half.

Talking to my boss this morning, she didn't hesitate in granting me the afternoon off. I left work about 1:30 and took a meandering ride to church - what is normally a 6.5 mile jaunt became a 20 mile trek. Then Jacque & I went together to the cemetary for the brief and peaceful grave side service. From there Jacque & I found a nearby eating establishment before we made the trek out to John & Lee's for a relaxing and enjoyable evening with some wonderful friends.
