I drove to Cleveland Park to ride with Ken’s Sunday ride. I rode around the park some and added 2 miles before we started. Six of us left the park - Ken, Dane, Jeremy, Sara, Carlton, and me. Kimberly joined us somewhere around Linky Stone Park to make 7. The parks were very crowded with foot traffic that made riding a challenge. I was at the back of the pack and one rider was really struggling with the foot traffic and that made riding behind him very hard. So when we stopped at Linky Stone I rode ahead of the group. Ken stayed close to me until he realized that we had lost the group. Ken wanted to leave the trail to ride by Hampton station, so I asked which way he wanted to get there. I rode on and went out the Orange Trail to get there. Once at the end of the Orange Trail, I went out Old Buncombe Road then rode onto the Furman campus by Timmons Arena and rode through the campus. I could see the boys baseball going on - Furman was playing Fordham. I rode on to our turn around point across from the creperie and rode down to the TReeHouse. Dane was there but the rest were not. Apparently he got separated from the group and rode straight up trail. I ordered a cup of decaf, a fruit cup, and a double-chocolate muffin to take home to Cissi. The others came in except Jeremy and Carlton. Carlton’s free hub had failed and he stopped at his home and picked up another bike. We never did find out what happened to Jeremy. We chatted for a good bit, then headed back down the trail.
Ken asked me to make sure that Dane made it back safely as Ken, Sara, and Carlton decided to ride back over Paris Mountain. Kimberly and I rode back trailing Dane while we talked. Kimberly dropped off at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe, while Dane and I headed back for Cleveland Park. I led Dane through the crowd as I am much better at working my way through foot traffic. It was a pretty good ride.
