Ride Description: I "finished" my rock garden, then went out to ride it. It looked awesome, but didn't ride very well at all. So, I tore out the north end section, re-designed it, and built it from scratch. Then I went to ride. It rides pretty good. There are 3 lines entering the south end. The left side is the armored narrow section that curves to the right. The center line is easy and stays in the dirt. And the right line goes through a 4 foot section of "baby heads before an optional rock drop of about 5". Going the other way has 2 lines, to the right is the armored section, or you can go down the middle. When you reach the other end, you can stay left and take the narrow step-up into the "baby heads", or split the step-up and the armored section. Line choice is critical there, because there are a couple rocks that stick up, and you do not want to hit them. I rode the garden several times. It's not too bad.
Then, while out to get some miles in, I met a guy (Dave Fabiano) that west to West High ('77) and we chatted for 40 minutes. By then, the north wind picked up, and it got cool very fast. |

Saturday and Sunday, I worked on the rock garden in the back yard. On Saturday, I thought I was pretty much done, but was too tired to test ride it. It looked really cool.
So Sunday morning, I went out to test ride it. It sucked. The armored section curved too much, making the exit at the south end almost impossible to ride. And there was not enough room to get straightened out after dropping off the big green rock. So, I tore out the north end section, re-designed it, and built it from scratch. I also re-worked the "baby head" rock section on the north end.
Most of the rock work is very time consuming, because it's like building a puzzle with the rocks. I have to keep trying to fit rocks into an empty space until I find the perfect rock that fits and doesn't move.

I was also going to use the pile of bricks to make a smooth "brickyard" line in the rock garden, but I changed my mind. Maybe I'll save them for another section of trail, maybe an area that has moisture problems. I'm getting tired of building trail, I want to ride.
Now I need to finish the trail at the north end by connecting it to the main trail. After that, I might work on the "Split Tree Rock Drop" at the southern edge of the property, near the church. Then, I'm done 'til Autumn, when I'll find a new section to start on.
