 Trying to read the weather
I went to bed last night pretty much resigned not to riding my bike to work today because of the weather forecast. There was call for rain moving into & out of the area overnight, then a chance of rain starting early afternoon and increasing chances of thunderstorms into the night. When I first woke up, my choices were do I drive my wife to work, or does she drive me? As I got up & wondered into the kitchen, Jacque mentioned that the forecast for the day now calls for more scattered rain during the afternoon and heavy rains later into the night.

OK, change of plans. I threw my work clothes into my bag including my rain pants & jacket just in case, got myself ready - wearing shorts today as the temp was already (still) 56 degrees - loaded up the bike and headed off for work.

Work itself started out a little furious with a couple new production issues to address, as well as wrapping up a couple others from yesterday, so the morning went by pretty fast. The afternoon dragged on at a much slower pace, as there wasn't any real pressing issues to pursue. Then a little after 4 PM, Jacque IM'd me and when I didn't respond quick enough (I was engrossed investigated something) she called and asked if I had looked at weather radar lately. Not in the last hour or so. At that time there was a thunderstorm line moving through the western half of MO, heading in a west by northwest direction - my thought at that time is if it made it to STL it would be late evening. Well, looking at radar now, that front was now approaching St Charles County. Jacque was inquiring if she should come & get me due to the threat of the impending weather. I said I'd meet her at the bowling alley a little before 6 PM.

One thing I do each day as I prepare to leave work & ride my bike home is check weather.com for the current weather conditions to include the weather stats with the ride's stats when logging the ride. As I did this today, I noticed that the wind is registering out of the SSE, which is great for the direction I am going to be riding - a tailwind , but what is strange is that storm front is moving in the other direction. Oh well, I'll take it when I can get it. The tailwind certainly helped push me toward my destination, especially when I turned onto Natural Bridge Rd right by the airport. I've reported before the struggles I've had on this slightly inclined stretch of road chugging into the wind, and as I could see lighting in the distance, having to grind my way up this stretch of road into a headwind now would really be disheartening as the rain was moving into the area.

I arrived at the bowling alley a little before 6 PM, with a light rain currently falling, although the last three-quarters of a mile of road showed signs of a heavier shower already moved out of the area, loaded the bike into the back of the truck and headed inside to get ready to bowl. By time league bowling started (6:30), there was a downpour and people were coming in drenched from head to toe - literally, as some removed their soaking wet socks when changing into their bowling shoes (their own shoes, not rentals).
