I took off right after noon to get in a quick quarter then watch the third game of the Marist vs Furman baseball series. As I pulled away from the house I heard a bad noise in the drive train area, so I turned around and rolled back to the basement door. I put the bike on the rack and saw that the left pedal was scraping on the frame pump. I had dislodged it earlier when I wa replacing the rear tire. So I sraightened it up and headed back out again. Then I rode to Cleveland Park then out the Hincapie Trail to Faris Road, up Faris to First Baptist on Cleveland Street, and out Cleveland to the Y. There I turned and went down their trail to rejoin the Hincapie Trail. Most of the way to the bottom I ran into a guy Jim from work that I really dislike, so I hustled on to put some distance between us. I rode back into Cleveland Park, then cut through downtown to get on the Trail at Linky Stone Park. As I was entering Linky Stone I saw a guy and gal off the side of the street with her bike upside down. I turned back to see what was wrong and if I could help them. Her chain had come off and they couldn't get it on. It was still on the front sprocket but hung up in the rear. I started it back on and turned the crank and it rolled right on. They were certainly happpy to have it back together. Then I pulled onto the Trail and saw that I had picked up a wheel sucker. I saw that it was Jim, so I picked up speed to see if he could hang with me. I got up to 20 mph on the flat, which is the Trail speed limit. But with him sucking on my wheel I was stuck with him. Then I started thinking of where I could turn off just to be rid of him. After a couple of miles I saw my riding friend Kimberly going south while I was going north, so I yelled at her and stopped to talk to her. That got rid of Jim! We chatted about 5 minutes or so then I headed on up the Trail. Going north was fairly uneventful except that Travelers Rest was packed with Trail users. I went on to the north end of the trail and found 2 women up there and one had an explosive blowout on her rear mountain bike tube. I guess that she inflated it herself and filled it until later it exploded (sound familiar?) I offered to call someone since I couldn't fix it there but she had determined to walk the bike back to Sunrift Outfitters a little over 2 miles back down the trail. A couple of other riders stopped, but there was nothing to do except encourage her to do it. I was coming back out of TR when my cell started ringing. I finally stopped and called Cis to see what she wanted. She had gone to the game and left my clothes at home. I was about 3 miles north of there, so I rode on down, told Cis that I would ride to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and have lunch, then ride on home. I told one of my ballpark buddies that I was going home and was counting on him to pull the team through. I rode to the Cafe and it was swamped with an overflow crowd. I had a roast beef and havarti sandwich with sweet tea. Kelsey waited on me and I also had a chocolate croissant and bought an oatberry shortbread for Cis. while in the Cafe I saw the Sunday afternoon group that I normally ride with going north. The rest of the ride was a little busy on the trail, but was otherwise uneventful.
