| Ride Description: Third and last day of RAGBRAI. Bob's knee bothered him all day and he wanted to go home. Since Steve was here for just two days, and had a vehicle to take him back to one overnight town, Bob would be able to get a ride back to Omaha where his pickup was. I decided to pack it in early as well. The ride today was quite nice, the relentless wind from the first two days had calmed considerably, and it was also a flatter ride...except for the last 20 miles or so. People were noticeably less observant today, they were not calling out hazards, or letting people know when they were coming ip on them. Some of the pacelines seemed to be taking unnecessary risks. I was actually relieved that Bob's knee was hurting today...I could have definitely finished the next four days, but since I hate crowds, this was an excellent solution for getting out. Had we not done it today, we would not have had a chance to leave at any other time. We had a very nice ride back to Omaha with Steve, and I was very happy to get to know him better. Oh, he would have had an impossible time loading his motorcycle on the trailer when we got back to Spencer, so it was good for him that we were there. Bob and I are both bikeless, though, until the bus returns through Gothenburg on Sunday. I'm missing mine already, Bob is happy to not have his for a bit! I also decided to leave early because I don't have that much time left in the states, and I wanted to spend more time with Russ. I must say that it was great getting to meet all the folks from CycleSport...they are some of the best people ever! |
