I set a goal of 2000 miles for the year. That means that I need to get about 40 miles a week to make that goal. Even though I missed two weeks of riding (the 1st week of January for vacation and the 1st week of February due to a family death) I am slightly ahead of schedule. Last Tuesday I went to ride and the rear tire was completely flat. That is my first flat since I started riding. It was up when I parked it on Saturday but down when I rolled it out on Tuesday. I bought an inner tube and it seemed fine. Then this Tuesday I went to ride with the SCTAC at Donaldson Center and it was flat again. I replaced the inner tube and the tire and checked the wheel and the tire for anything that could be poking the inner tube. I missed the SCTAC ride, but got in some miles at the ICAR. I bought some Slime and plan to Slime the tires today to take care of flats.

Glad to see another disc golfer! It isn't something I'm good at but I do enjoy it. My attitude is it is about my miles not someone else's. Although I do like to see anyone do well. I met a 80 year old man riding the Houston to Austin MS 150. It was his 24th consecutive. I have seen enough evidence to believe the bicycle is the fountain of youth. Stop by my site www.fatmanonabike.com It is really dated, but has some useful infomation.

Good to hear from you. Our youngest daughter was also born in St. Joe. We usually spend around 4 months a year in AZ and the rest in IA with our 4 grand kids. We got to Mesa, AZ late this year(20Apr) as I had a bike accident in Feb & broke a hip and clavicle. I have a good group to ride with in AZ so get lots of miles in down here. Have done RAGBRAI 28 times and plan again this year. I love riding so get in lots of miles. Glad to hear you are keeping it up as it is good for your health. Don Pettengill

Well Kadiddle and I are coming to some agreements. I let Kadiddle makes my thighs ache and I just set there comfortably as I do. Wish I had converted earlier.

You commented about the "Connie" on my FB page. I crewed in these during my Air Force days as a part of College Eye mission in South Korea in the early 70's. EC121 was the military designation.

History:

September 2009 - I have been looking for a way to get some exercise that isn't so hard on my joints (ankles, knees, and hips.) I used to ride but haven't ridden regularly in over 20 years. I had two things keeping me from riding - an emotional attachment to my childhood bicycle and the lack of safe riding areas close to home. I finally went out and bought a bike to ride other than my nearly 50 year old Firestone coaster brake bike and Greenville is making progress on the Swamp Rabbit trail and some other bike riding areas. So I am now riding for exercise 2 to 4 times a week.

November 2009 - I have been riding about 12 weeks and have logged over 400 miles. That isn't much by many serious rider standards, but as a fat old man I'm pretty proud of it. So far I have 3 routes that I ride - two along the Swamp Rabbit Trail and one in the ICAR area. The SRT routes are dedicated biker, walker, jogger paths while the ICAR has bike lanes along the roads in the ICAR.

July 2010 - A little over a month ago I bought a new road bike and am currently riding both bikes (not at the same time!) We have had an unseasonally hot June and the big heat has slowed me down, but I'm still keeping my minimum of 40 miles a week to stay after my 2000 mile goal for the year.

June 2015 - I have been riding 5 3/4 years now - 5 years on my road bike. Due to GeeWhizMan and his challenges I am putting more time and miles on my bike this year than any other year. I am stronger than I was before my accident 21 months ago, but I am also heavier. That makes climbing a real challenge. I will never be any kind of elite rider, but I sure enjoy riding.

August 2018 - It has been a year and a half since my wreck. I ride a little but only very little. I miss the cycling time, but I can’t seem to work it into my present schedule. I plan to retire at year’s end and hope to get back to riding full time.

26" Comfort bike
Description:  This is a cheap big box store bike that I bought to see if I was going to ride or if it was a passing fancy. I put about 1300 miles on it before I bought the Gary Fisher road bike. As I became more and more comfortable with the road bike this bike has become less and less comfortable for me to ride. Even though it is not a quality bike, it got me started riding.
