On a thread on the BJ Forum on the 19th, Tinker Suarez was doored while cycling along at 22mph on a busy street. Thankfully he's okay.
Most important, best wishes for a successful recovery and Tinker gett'n back to doing what he loves.
Now watch me get "doored" for this comment: I was going to post this to the thread but that takes away from the thread intent. Sooooooooooo Safety wise, nobody should be doing 22 mph given those conditions (semi busy 4 lane, parking on the side, etc.) . At 22mph on a bike ye gots no time to react to a quick opening door, someone running out from between parked cars, a dog popping out, etc IMHO.
There's some places where ya gots to bike to the conditions. City cycling is dangerous enough...at 22mph you're inviting a problem.
Anyone reading this, nope I'm not being insensitve to Tinker's plight...but at the same time me thinks him cycling at 22 mph on what looks like a busy street with lots of cars on the side wasn't the way he shoulda been cycling.
Bike not to die........and that means cycling with a lot of common sense.

I never even thought about that side of the story Joe. You're right. Thanks for waking up my brain.

The sad thing is that some of us feel that we cannot post such things in the forum anymore - at least not me. The nice thing about the bike blogs is that it gives us a "safer" place to post our thoughts, opinions, and creative works. I have lost all desire to post my photos in the main forum based on the responses I got there.
