If you ever get to the south Florida area, do yourself a flavor and find Crandon Park. There is a really nice bike trail out to a boardwalk overlooking the bay. Ask around and you can find the original zoo, which was abandoned in the 80's when the Miami Metropolitan Zoo opened.
Some thing's we saw in the zoo area but didn't photograph
- A whole area of Iguanas who immediately dove into the storm grates when we approached. They must live in the old underground drainage system.
- An Iguana the size of Rhode Island but it was on an island in the middle of a lake and way too far away to photograph.
- An aligator who slithered off the island into the water. A local said the gator had been moved from Kendall where it previously dined on 3 dawgs.
- A slew of different kind of birds now living in the park area.
- A beautiful Peacock with feathers spread and of course as the camera came out the feathers went down.
Did the ride with my bride on our Bike Friday tandem, which travled with us from Shanghai to my sister's in Miami.
If you need a travel bike, check out Bike Friday. And if you buy one mention Joe Keenan. Hey..I could use the $50 for bike stuff!!!
