I occassionally see other cyclist commuting to/from their jobs when I am commuting to mine.
A memorable one last week I saw a guy dressed like an auto mechanic riding up a residential street going the opposite direction as me - this is the first time in the past year & half I've been going this way that I have seen him. What makes this more unique is that I saw him again that evening on my way... home - again he as going the opposite direction as me, and this was a block over on a street that parrellels the street of the morning's encounter.
This moring I saw three cyclist. The first close to the airport, where I typically see commuters - heading towards Boeing or other major employers in that area - but its the other two that stand out more in my mind, primarily becuase they were riding on the wrong side of the street. They were going the same direction as me, but on the left side of the street instead of the right (as in opposite of left and correct) side. I couldn't catch up with the first before I had to turn to follow my route. Then a block later as I was turning left (east) onto Midland, the second wrong way rider was in the middle of Midland (like a J walker - not at an intersection) waiting for traffic so he could get to the right side where the road is not divided, as it turns out, to make a right onto Walton, following the route I take. As I was heading down Walton I could see him in my mirror & he seemed to be staying on the right side fo the road. Then at the bottom of the hill at Page as I was waiting for the light to change to green, he navigated traffic to go on across, then he proceeded to continue up Walton making his way to the left side of the road. I hollered, while still waiting for MY light to change, for him to ride on the right - he moved back to the right, but I'm not sure if it was because of me or if he didn't like the car coming at him and no shoulder to use to get out of its way.
Bicyclist rule of thumb: Ride with traffic! Ride like you are a part of traffic!
