I finally got the new Surly Straggler out for its first ride. I made some adjustments and found myslef flailing with the SRAM Double Tap shifters. I finally figured them out but it will take a little time before I am adjusted to them. I rode by TTR and had them take off the 41 mm knurled tires and replace them with 32 mm road slicks. I also made a couple more adjustments and headed up the trail. I stopped at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and had an oatberry shortbread and a strawberry smoothie. While sipping on my smoothie Ramona rode up. She was in a nasty cycling wreck about a week ago and is badly bruised and has a lot of road rash. She came on a group on the trail gathered around a copper head and when she tried to pass it raised up and struck at her. She ran off the trail and wrecked her bike. It beat her up and the bike. Her buddy Noel has fixed up her bike while she's been healing. Today was a first ride for the both of us. I rode on home and climbed the big hill coming home. I was waiting to see how well I could climb on it. It did fairly well. I was also very aware that I hadn't ridden for a while!!
After I made it home the Trek Store called and they have my bike nearly completed. It should be ready tomorrow or the next day. By next week I should have two new bikes!
