 counting miles and hours
I count outdoor miles to reach my mileage goals. I do cycle occasionally on an indoor machine and count that time as part of my total cycling time goal for the year. Keeping track of miles and time like that, it can appear that my mph average is lower than actuality. Of course if I were to track mileage(?) on an indoor bike, it would skew the mph average the other way!

As a matter of note, I have cycled 97 consecutive(indoor & outdoor) days;
  • mileage total 1451 YTD (thru the morning ride today) -83 outdoor cycling days;
  • averaging 17.48 miles each of those 83 outdoor days;
  • 260 days left 'til 2011;
    In order to make my mileage goal of 6214 before the year end, I'll need to average 18.3 miles per day for the next 260 days!
    I have been averaging 13.82 miles per day for the first 105 days of the year.

    I have cycled 148.5 hours YTD (thru the morning ride today). 11.45 of those hours were on an indoor bike. Subtracting my indoor HOURS I have 137.05 outdoor hours. Actual average outdoor speeds so far this year:
  • 10.58mph for the first 1451 miles this year
  • 11.03mph over the last 258miles -so my speed is increasing!.

    When the Bianchi is back in service and when my Cruzbike gets the upgrade I expect my speeds to average over 12mph.

    My time goal is 621 hours. that means I have 472.5 hours in which to make my mileage goal. All that measures up to 10mph. As previously stated, I expect to exceed that mph average while reaching my time goal. And that means I expect to exceed my mileage goal...

    John, rather than having to compute this yourself, use a Journal Filter. When viewing your journal, in the upper right, choose Add Filter. Within there you can choose a Ride Type of All Outdoor. Save it and apply it.
