My first outdoor ride of 2017. A short ride to run out the e-bike battery.
My EG Zurich 350IX is a great bike for commuting. While it is not as fast as my lighter non-electric Bianchi, the EG Zurich helps one to pedal at a steadier pace without having to work up too much of a sweat getting to work. But a 235 pound rider on a 57 pound bike, even with a 350 watt hub motor assisting, requires substantial rider effort in order to maintain 20+ mph. That said, the bike is a blast to ride! A major shortfall with an ebike is battery power capacity and longevity. After 300 recharges the battery no longer puts out the same energy value as when it was new. Lithium-Ion batteries have a limited life span. So now it is time for refurbishment -a $500 replacement or rebuild is needed...
