 BANG!! BANG!!
A halting ride with 2 blow-outs;

John Shelley brought his 1970's vintage Schwinn over for a quick tune-up. I made some adjustments to the dérailleurs, lubed the brake and shifter cables and pumped up the tires to 90 psi. We took a spin up the Twin Ponds cul de Sac... BANG!! the front tire blew. John thought running over a stone punctured the tube. I suggested the old rusty rim may have rust shards which may have punctured the tube.

I inspected the rim, filed a rough spot at the weld seam, replaced the tube and off we went to the Towpath at Adams Basin. We stopped and drank some Gator-Aid... BANG!! The front tire blew AGAIN!

I had very carefully installed the tube which was perfect and new. The tire looked good... I was perplexed. We packed Johnny's bike into the trunk of his car and sent him on his way with the expectation that a new front wheel would solve the issue.

On his way home John stopped at Park Ave Bike shop where they determined that I had over-inflated the front tire. The front rim can not hold the tire bead at 90psi (for which the tire is rated). The bike shop suggested 60 psi would solve the blow-out tendencies.
