After 4,094 miles, I have "retired" the 26 x 1.25 Performance/Forte Fast City ST/K, tires. They are not quite used up but they have earned a rest.
Yesterday I bought a set of Serfas, Drifter/ dual sport city tires, 26 x 1.5", 40-65psi.
I installed the tires and inflated them to max pressure. Still, The ride was noticeably tedious and slow today. The Cruzbike seemed really hard to pedal and I could not sustain reasonable cadence in the higher gears. Most of the ride was using 2nd, 3rd, &4th gears!! Wind was assuredly a factor.
The reality that tire size and tread type may translate into slower average speeds is not an unreasonable thought. Nor was it an unanticipated realization. I can work with better traction for the Winter and perhaps these tire will be sufficient for commuter and towpath use. But for touring I will need a different set-up.
Got a great 100+ minute work out on the ride!
