Last Monday my knee was "replaced". It's called a "TKR", total knee replacement. But it's the same Tibia, Fibula, Patella, and Femur, they've only been reshaped and had prosthetic items added to get them working better together -like the old days.
Previous (limited) flexibility has not yet returned. Nothing unusual at this point, recovery from a TKR is a 12 week event, -so they say. Much swelling is interfering with flexibility and range of motion. Even so, I am making measurable progress. The new knee supports me well with regard to walking, standing, and sitting. Those activities are more and more comfortable every day.
Cindy "Make-a-wish", my therapist -is top-notch. Cindy clearly explains her reasoning for each therapeutic activity. She mentioned yesterday that my quads were a bit ahead of development schedule. The advanced development of the quads is interfering with flexibility and range of motion. She had me rocking the cranks on the exercise bike for a bit. Long way to go there before I get the crank all the way around. But I am making measurable progress.
Yesterdays therapy knocked a few things loose into my bloodstream and in the nick of time I had a couple of aspirin dissolving under my tongue. I have been given many warnings about clots breaking loose and the potential for harm. I monitored myself very carefully and was ready to hit 9-1-1. Figuring the Coumaden needs to be given at a higher dose. This morning at 8:30, that idea was corroborated by the Surgical P.A., Scott.
So far so good! I've got about 10 minutes rocking on the cranks of the exercise bike.
