Today I headed to Herdklotz Park to meet Ken and Mark to ride to the top of Paris Mountain. Altamont Road was repaved at the end of summer and I haven't been up since it was done. Ken was delayed a little, so I tootled around the parking lot a Herdklotz Park for a good bit. Once they came by we headed out Beverly Drive to get to Altamont for the climb. We stopped for water at the convenience store at the bottom of Altamont. Then we headed up the mountain. The bike was fine going up the mountain. THe surface was so much smoother to ride. We rode up Tower Road to the tower area and the great view of Greenville. They will be closing Tower Road soon because of the graffiti, dumping, and vandalism at the site. It's a shame as it is the best view of town. We had a good time at the top of the mountain - enjoying the view, talking with a bunch of girls at the top, and reminiscing about how the views have changed.
We headed back down the mountain. Ken thought the new surface was a little slicj, but I am not a break-neck descender and neither is Mark. At the bottom of the mountain we stopped at the convenience store for a water refill and I had a bottle of Gatorade. We rde from there to the Dunkin' Donuts on Wade Hampton Boulevard. I had a cup of coffee and a coffeecake while Mark and Ken discussed buying and selling bikes. I split off from them and backtracked to Pine Knoll to work my way home. I put a couple of miles on East North to push the mileage over 25 miles. It was a good pre-holiday ride.
