 Swamp ROMP
Today the Swamp ROMP had a ride from the Swamp Rabbit Cafe to TR with a stop for lunch at Sidewall Pizza. I left the home and was on East North Street in front of the credit union when I saw something bright green in the street. I turned around in the credit union parking lot and saw that it was a woman's wallet. I picked it up and started looking for ID. It was full of credit cards but had been run over several times and they were a mess. I rode on the the cafe and found that the group today was pretty big for a Swamp ROMP. 11 of us left the cafe and we picked up Daryl at Furman and added a husband at Sidewall Pizza.

We rode to Sidewall Pizza because Jeff had a free pizza for his birthday. There were 13 of us. I saw several pizzas split between different people, I bought a roasted salad with roasted brussel sprouts, and butternut squash. I bought a small pizza and had home-made black cherry soda. I also saw at least a half dozen salads and several orders of breadsticks. I'm glad that I didn't order a large salad as a small salad was as much as I could eat! I went through the found wallet and found a name and address. Lynn looked up the address on his smart phone and it was a half block off East North on my way home. Daryl asked me to tighten a screw on her mirror before we left, so I got out my cycling multi-tool and tightened it up for her.

After that we gathered up and we headed back down the trail. I rode at the back with Jeff for a while, then later it was Linda. Jeff is fun to joke around with. He was pretty severely injured 9 years ago and has several lingering physical and mental issues, but he and I have a good time kidding. He rides a three-wheeled recumbent as he has balance issues. Linda and I chatted our way down the trail as well. Daryl and Kathy both left us at Furman and we headed on down the trail. I stayed at the back with Linda until we crossed Blue Ridge Road. It is a divided 4-lane highway and it can take a while to get a group across. Everyone made it except me. They were about 1/4 mile ahead when I crossed, which isn't much of a lead with a slow riding group. When I caught up Jeff started in on me and we joked the rest of the way to the cafe. Once there they were all parked there or at the church lot across the river except Jeff and me. So they all headed for their cars while Jeff and I rode on down the trail. We rode together a little over two more miles then he turned off to his place downtown while I rode on into Falls Park.

I rode on through Falls Park and Cleveland Park and worked my way to East North Street to get home. As I rode up East North I was looking for Balsam Drive. When I found it, it was a road that I thought was a driveway. I turned up and rode it and found that it went on through. I found the right house, parked my bike, and knocked on the door. A young woman came to the door as if she expected me. She was really glad to get her battered purse back. She had canceled her credit cards but was glad to get her personal things back. After being run over several times the purse was ruined and her credit cards had taken a beating. I found her address on her voter registration card. I finally did find her driver's license that had her address as well. She had taken her little boy to the zoo that morning and put her wallet on top of the car while getting him situated. She was really glad to get it back.

I was just over a mile from home and headed back to East North and into my neighborhood. It was an odd ride, but a lot of fun.
