I reconnected with an orthopedic surgeon today. Dr. Niles is the Doctor who told me way back in 1999 that I had the knees of an 85 year old. Well those old knees have been bothering me more and more. Over the past 2 years I have suffered 4 severe sprains, dislocations where something inside shifted and a tearing, snapping sensation, had me hobbled for 3 to 4 weeks at a time.
After x-rays Niles asked what I wanted. He said there really is nothing in the way injections or external prosthesis that could help my situation. He said my "windswept posture" was due to bone on bone wear on the left side of EACH KNEE! The only recourse would be major surgery -replacements. "Which knee did I want replaced first?" We're going with the more deformed Left knee first. I asked the Doc if I would be able to regain my lost height. He mentioned something about shoe inserts...
