Settting my mileage goal this year was a "lofty goal(s) for WNY" -to quote a fellow Western New York biker.
I thought that 6000 miles would be a do-able challenge. Along the way I hoped to contribute a little friendly competition for some of my svelter, name brand conscious, Lycra wearing, hot-dog, show-off, hill climbing, bike rider colleagues. I've more than achieved my goals.
I'm sure in the case of one hot-dog biker colleague, my "lofty goal" was a starter pistol for him to go out and reach new heights. More than setting a goal, an incentive to achieve has come from seeing the achievements of others chronicled here on BJ. It has been a great year so far!
So right now I'm in the top 5-6% of all BJ outdoor biker riders! So what does that make me? Nothing special really. I've a new found passion for exercise and improved health. My family and friends have noticed the change. I have been inspired AND I've inspired some people with my dedication. It's all good from my perspective and much of the incentive to persevere has come from the ability to compare various statistics. Having reached my goal of 6000 miles, the effort now is for continuing daily rides and to reach 10,000 kilometers by December 31st.
