 TKR + 20 days
IN the past 3 years, I have suffered 4 dislocation/sprains, two on each knee. The amount of debilitation I have suffered from the surgery is on par with the debilitation suffered with the past dislocations/sprains. And the pain level has been more manageable (mostly due to medication). Over the years with the continuing dislocations I have learned some compensation techniques for moving about which I found helpful in the initial days after the TKR. At this point I have regained all of the flexibility I had with the old knee. I am still lacking all of the strength but that is coming back well enough. Cycling has been a key to my regaining flexibility!

The biggest issue I've had with post surgical pain has come about from trying to straighten the leg. The pain has been located mostly behind the knee, stemming from the main nerve which runs down the back of the leg. There is occasional light pain associated with transitioning from sitting to standing. That pain is located in the shin area directly below the kneecap, and is a minor occasional annoyance. Additionally there has been a substantial amount of tightness when I flex the knee, but it does not appear to be an issue of swelling... and the tightness seems to be diminishing! Stepping seems to be the most strenuous aspect so far in the rehabilitation process.
