A second ride today, this one on the Bianchi; Took the "big" around the block ride, not without mishap.
5.5 miles into the ride, on Canal Road, The front tire was spongy, losing air. I suspect the tube is failing at the shoulder where the "PRESTA" valve is connected to the rubber bladder-just an educated guess. The Presta valve tubes fail there, often. That is the point of a definite weakness in the Presta valve type tubes. I pumped the tire up to about 60 pounds and nursed it home. It was flat again when I pulled into my driveway.
Perhaps the anti-leak compound I use(not the "green stuff") is somewhat corrosive.
In the past, Presta tubes have revealed a bit of corrosion at the point of the stem shoulder. Another consideration is the 2700+ miles on the front tire (Conti.-Ultra Gator skin) has more than a few cuts in the rubber.
