 Blending pursuits
I have had a few specific interests in my life. Among my hobbies/pursuits, cycling and chess have been 2 of my most significant interests. And chess has been a pursuit in which I have spent thousands of hours studying and playing.

Six years ago I played a lot of chess! Mostly it was correspondence chess over the internet. When I first rediscovered my interest in biking six years ago it was mostly for commuting and fitness. But biking turned out to be an avenue for chess too. Starting back in 2003, my first biking companion was one of my strongest chess opponents. Back in '03, essential equipment on any bike ride with Tim would be a roll-up chess board, pieces and a chess clock. You could say biking was an extension of our competitiveness. I am not so competitive any more (I have nothing to prove or test at this point in life).

My friend "Bikewhite" has had interests similar to mine. We first crossed paths and developed our friendship through chess. We have rekindled our common interest and are biking and playing chess games.

Today we did Bikewhites 11.9 mile work-out route and afterward sat around his kitchen table to analyze one of our correspondence chess games.

here is the FEN data of the game position up to this point:
