It was one of "those days" today! Before commuting this afternoon I had to waste time attempting to have our Volvo pass inspection. Two weeks ago I spent $350+/- to replace a fancy sensor computer unit. The device seemed to solve the service engine light. But NYS inspection system showed the auto needed more mileage to re-evaluate the the Volvo's overall efficiency!?? Alright so the morning effort was a waste of time.
I had a nice fast ride in to work averaging about 14.5mph on the Dahon; Later when the afternoon shift was over, I discovered the Dahon had a flat front tire. No problem, changing a flat at work is fairly comfortable.
I inspected the tube which had an easy to notice pin-hole on the rim side of the tube. It makes it the third time patching that tube. Three Strikes! Patching the hole, re-installing the tube and tire, pumping the air with the seat-post pump, I was finished and ready to ride in 30 minutes. All's well that ends well!? Not quite! The saddle bag zipper won't zip. So I rigged a temporary fix and headed for home.
About two miles into the return trip, the front tire is feeling "squishy"!! I stop and use a CO2 cartridge to re-inflate the tire so I can make another 1/4 mile to Petinaris. I buy a sport drink and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Removing the front wheel from the bike AGAIN, I install a new tube. The seat-post pump is difficult at best to use -but I am out of CO2 cartridges... Even using tire "Irons" mounting and re-mounting tires hurts the hand joints!!
So I am now a re-confirmed believer in using anti-leak compound tubes in my commuter bikes!
