headed to Fairport via the Erie canal; my 1st cross county eastern canal trip;
-just east and north of Ayrault Rd. in Fairport, met an old friend, Fred Larson who was hiking/walking;
This is how it went: I passed Ayrault Rd., with the thought "this is where Larson lives". One minute farther along the trail, I see a tall fellow walking along, heading in the same direction as me. This guy is walking with a "John Wayne type" of swagger. I announce in my usual orotund voice: "Well this can’t be Fred Larson, could it be?" The man stops in his tracks, pivots around as I brake to a stop along side him. He squints, reaching back in his mind for a name. He Says: "Ja-John?" It was an extraordinary moment for me. I had not seen Fred for 3 or 4 years. Fred is an outstanding outdoorsman, he has hiked many miles by foot bike over many years. We chatted for a bit and made some tentative plans to cycle to Palmyra.
Heading back I ate at Tom Wahls (garbage plate and root beer); DURATION: 8.5 hrs
