Today's ride on the CCX started by heading west to check on progress with the towpath west of Sweden Walker Road. The towpath is passable and in fact groomed to mint condition partway. However, about half the distance to Brockport from Sweden Walker Road is fairly rough. Work continues, but I doubt the path will be pristine before the "Cycle the Erie Canal" event starts on July 7th.
On the way back via Ridge Road, I was passed by a Lycra-clad road biker. On the modest climb east of Salmon Creek, on Ridge Road, this guy caught and passed me without a word. Noting my speed was about 14 mph, as he passed I was startled and surprised, 😕This biker had to have stealthily busted his butt to overtake me. Surprised mostly because I had not noticed any cyclist in my mirror since turning onto the Ridge...
Anyway, I boosted my assist from ECO to level 2 and took off -hammering on the pedals! I passed him just before Hinkleyville Road, doing 28 mph as I passed, announcing as I went by..."but my bike is faster" -as I went by! At Trimmer Road I pulled over to finish my water bottle. The Lycra-biker came by and gave a thumbs up as he continued down the ridge.😃
