Replaced the wheels on the Dahon after 500 miles of use.
Not a frivolous modification but a necessary one. Owing to the fact of a somewhat exotic lacing pattern being not very durable for a 230 pound rider. I anticipated there would be an issue in the first 1000 miles but 500 miles proves the point distinctly!
The rear wheel popped a spoke after only 505 miles. With a 2x pattern on the drive side and a radial pattern on the non-drive side, the rear wheel lacing pattern was an obvious issue waiting to happen.
The front wheel has a radial pattern which looks splendid but feels a little tentative. Replacing both wheels today with Sun/Rhyno rims and Shimano hubs(SR-D525 SUN/DEORE 525 MOUNTAIN WHEEL), done up with 15 gage spokes in a 3x pattern. I expect durability similar to the rims on my other 26" wheeled bike (Cruzbike), which has similar Wienman wheels. I also replaced the 12x32 cassette with a new 11x32 Sram Cassette
