With my incapacitated friend Jerry as motivation. I decided to increase my effort to reach 100 work commutes for this year. I've been busy with tons of yard work lately and haven't been out riding much.
My friend Jerry has been mostly immobile after a horrible bike crash. The freak solo accident has left him in a life-threatening condition. The accident has left him confined to a bed in U of R Strong Hospital ICU, needing periodic dialysis, breathing support, and a feeding tube, unable to speak. His recovery will be a long process and he may never recover full use of his Arms and Legs. This terrible biking accident occurred on an RBC ride -back on Oct 14th.
Before his accident, Jerry was having a banner year of biking. The accident occurred near the conclusion of a ride as he moved onto the shoulder of a road in Honeoye, NY. He was riding a newly purchased 2012 Rans XStream 26. This model had a known pedal wheel interference condition. Having seen the interference occurring on low-speed tight turns. Although no one witnessed what occurred, I believe this was a contributing issue in Jerry's crash.
