 Leaf Tour
Today was the annual Leaf Tour. I drove to North Greenville University to ride with the late riders. Nine of us left NGU together riding 15 or 20 miutes behind the main group - Ken, Steve, Don, Lynda, Mark, Kristy, Kimberly, Keith, and me. We rode out and along highway 8 to make the cut across to Aunt Sue's. We lost some of our group while riding out there. Aunt Sue's had a group of antique cars (mostly Model A's) and a BLue Grass group playing. They had the dining room closed, but were serving outdoor meals. I didn't want to eat a meal in the middle of the ride, so I had a caramel apple and iced tea. We picked up three more riders at Aunt Sue's - John, Bethany, and MaryAnn.

We headed back on Highway 11 and had a split where we turn off. There was some kind of disagreement between Ken and Steve about how to ride back. We went one way and Steve took off another way. We rode back to Marietta and stopped at Slater Drug for our free shakes. I had an orange creme shake. Bethany and John took off ahead of us to get back early for a meeting. MaryAnn was spent and called for a ride home from there. The rest of us took off and were making the final ride back. I could see that Kristy was wearing down, so i was keeping an eye on her. She was behind then I heard her call for help. I turned back and her chain had come off and was locked up. I got her chain straightened out and we went on, but the group had gone off and left us. By this time we were riding into a pretty stiff wind. I told Kristy to stay close to my wheel to draft riding back. She was tired, so I cut my pace back to keep her out of the wind.

When we got back in John and Bethany were there talking about being assualted on the ride back. They had someone stop close to them and threatened them with a ball bat. Then a second car joined in and threatened them as well. John got their tag numbers and will call the police about it. Kristy's dad is the state representative for that district, so she gave John his name and number. It is a shame that people have to act like that, but John and Bethany had driven up from Athens, Ga to ride. Officer Mike will get involved in this. Mike is a big, bad deputy sheriff. I would hate to have him on my tail.

Overall, it was a good ride. Kristy is a new rider and this was by far her longest ride. John and Bethany had a good ride until they were threatened by some of our local rednecks.
