 Swamp ROMP?
Today the Swamp ROMP was leaving the Cafe at 10 to ride to TR for lunch. I rode from the house and cut across town to get there. My friend Kristy meet us and 10 of us left the Cafe to ride - Joe, Alice, Kristy, Bob, Bob, Verio, Ron, Jeff, Joy, and me. There was a marathon being run on the trail while we were riding today. I was riding at the rear of th egroup. Joy was trying to get me to ride past her, but I told her that I sit at the rear to take care of anyone that struggles at the rear. Just then I pointed out one of our ridiers off the side. He said that his rear derailleur was acting up on him. I found a bunch of an elastic string wrapped up in his cassette. It took a while to get it all out, but then we were back on the way. Alice was struggling with her shifting as she doesn't understand how or when to shift. We rode on north and shouted encouragement to the marathoners that we were meeting on the trail. We rode on into Travelers Rest then on out to th enorth end of the trail. At that point I rode off and left the group to run out to the end and back. Once I was back with the group Verio had left to get home. We rode back to Travelers Rest to have lunch.

We stopped at Sidewall Pizza and I had a wedge salad and there homemade soda. I had a black cherry cola, a vanilla creme, and a root beer. While we were eating Joy suddenly got up and left. I asked if she was leaving and somebody said "I don't think that he meant to insult her." I went out to check on her and she was gone. I spoke with Joe (our leader) and he said that he will email her and find out what happened. One of the guys riding today has a crude mouth and I'm afraid that he said something to upset her.

After we finished eating the 8 of us started back toward town. We had ridden just a ways when Alice wrecked her bike. Alice is a 73 year old deaf woman. She was shaken up and her bike was a little battered. Kristy, Jeff, Joe, and I made sure that she was okay and I checked over her bike. Joe rode back to the Cafe to get his car and come back to pick her and he bike up. I waited with Alice since the Cafe was about a 45 minute ride for Joe. We got her packed up and I called Cis to pick me up at the Cafe. I was about a 25 minute ride for me to get back down there.

The ride was good until things fell apart. I heard from Alice tonight - she is fine and the bike shop fixed her bike for free. I am still upset about what went on with Joy.
