Today I drove to Cleveland Park and met Ken, Steve S, and Mark to get in a ride. I had a whopper headache and wondered about riding at all. I had the Surly with me, but had I known that we would be tackling some big hills I would have ridden the Trek. We headed up the trail and got off at Furman for lunch. I had a Chic-fil-a sandwich and waffle fries with a G2 drink. We left there and rode along the lake, but exited the north end of campus to get to Roe Ford Road. We took that to Keeler Mill Road and wandered around until we came out just below Marietta. Then we took 414 to Pleasant Retreat Road, where I was nearly hit by an oncoming female driver that must have been texting. She came out of a turn and wandered across into my lane. Then we climbed Tubbs Mountain where I went ahead of the group and I never saww them again. They had been letting me get a headstart since I was struggling to keep up on the climbs. Once back in Travelers Rest I thought that I texted that I was going on to the Cafe to buy groceries. I rode to the Cafe and bought a pound of ground beef, a half pound of bacon, and a quart of strawberries. I also bought and consumed an oatberry shortbread and a bottle of dark cherry soda. From that point I rode back to the truck. Once there I saw the guys’ cars were still there and when I went to text them I saw that my previous text was still cued up, so they had no idea what happened to me! I texted them that I was done and at the truck.
