Today I drove to Pelham Medical Center to get in a ride with Ken. After the sweat-fest on the last ride I bought a headband to combat the sweat in my eyes. I also bought a pair of weight lifting gloves that looked very much like riding gloves to see how they worked. Once I got there Ken had left his helmet and gloves at home. He had a pair of garden gloves in his car and rode with no helmet. We had no set route, so we just wandered around from there trying to stay on lightly traveled country roads. The weather was nice, but the wind was brutal! At times it pushed us along the way, but there were a lot of times that it was hard to make any headway against it. While in Reidville we saw the Sugar Tit Distillery and talked to some people that had stopped for a drink. We also stopped at a stop sign and were drinking from our bottles when a guy yelled out that he keeps water at his mailbox for cyclists. Sure enough he had several bottles of water in a box under his mailbox, so we stopped and each downed one. He said that he rides and will be out tomorrow with Cindy M. We stopped outside of Holly Hills Farm and took a couple of pictures. We turned around at the point and the easy ride to Holly Hills was a real slugfest against the wind going back! I spent much of this ride in my small ring climbing hilld and riding into the wind, when I tried to shift to the big ring the wind would slow me until I was too slow to pedal! We made it back - I took off the right glove and will work on it to fit better. The headband must have worked as I had no sweat in my eyes. Ken plans to put a spare helmet and pair of gloves in his car for future mistakes.
